About Ellis
I'm a dedicated high school student with a strong academic track record, including membership in the Riverwood Honor Society and Beta Club, along with three-time recognition on the Principal's List for maintaining all weighted A grades. Beyond academics, I've spent years developing patience and communication skills that translate directly into tutoring: I founded and lead a 145-member community service organization, mentor students through Best Buddies, and have supervised children as a Counselor-in-Training for over 250 hours. I know how to explain things clearly, stay calm when someone's frustrated, and adapt my approach to fit how a student actually learns best. Parents and students can trust that I show up prepared, take commitments seriously, and genuinely care about helping each student build confidence in math, not just get through the next test.

I've been in honors math since elementary school and am currently an IB Diploma candidate studying Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations, so I understand math both as a student working through the same struggles you might be facing and as someone who's built real depth in the subject. My approach starts with figuring out exactly where a concept clicks or breaks down for a student, rather than just repeating the textbook explanation — sometimes a problem needs a different angle, a visual, or a real-world example before it makes sense. A typical lesson starts by reviewing what's confusing from recent classwork, works through practice problems together with me explaining my thinking out loud, and ends with a few problems the student tries independently while I check their work. I can help with any math from elementary through middle school level. What sets me apart is patience and recent, firsthand experience — I remember exactly what it's like to be confused by a new concept, so I never rush or make a student feel behind.
