About Elliott
Hi! I'm a 9th grader who loves learning and helping others do the same! I go to a small private school. The subjects I'm strongest in are English, science, and math. When I'm not studying I love to play sports. I also love reading and playing video games in my free time. I run cross-country where I won multiple meets last year. My main passions are basketball and soccer though, where I started on both varsity teams as an eighth grader. I have 3 dogs as well as 3 siblings.
I want to tutor to get real-world experience with children and because I remember how confusing some topics were when I was younger. I want to make learning as easy as possible for upcoming students. I'm patient and friendly and I try to explain things as clearly and simply as possible.
My biggest pet-peeve in learning are teachers/tutors who make you feel so uncomfortable you feel scared to ask a question. In my tutoring sessions it will be my top priority to make sure the student never feels that way.

My largest mission as a tutor is to make learning less daunting and formal and more like having helpful, older, friend guide you through it. I perform very well in school and I like using what I've learned to help younger students feel more able and confident.
I have had experience working with younger children from babysitting and also tutoring other students.
A typical lesson would start off with a check-in of what the student has been doing. Then, we could work on anything that the student is struggling with, whether that be hard problems from class, homework, or simply recovering concepts they didn't get initially.
What sets me apart is that I am a student as well. While this may discourage some, I think my age does put the student at ease and more comfortable, and that it's just a better place to learn. I am 9th grade, but a year ahead in math, science, English, and Spanish.
My tutoring is most effective for students in grades 2-7 and students struggling with the following subjects:
Math (basic skills, pre-algebra, early geometry)
Reading and writing (comprehension, grammar, essays)
Science (earth, life, or physical science)
Spanish (beginner level)
Social studies and history
