About Mira
I have spent seven years engaging more than 240 students with the wonders of ecology, evolution, and conservation. My academic background includes a master's degree in ecology and conservation biology and extensive fieldwork experience in tropical forests, wetlands, and marine environments. I have worked as a field biologist, environmental educator, and secondary school teacher, giving me a diverse toolkit for teaching biology in context. My students have pursued careers in environmental science, conservation policy, veterinary medicine, and ecological research. I am particularly skilled at helping students see the relevance of biology to environmental challenges such as climate change, habitat loss, and species extinction. I design field-based learning experiences and maintain partnerships with conservation organizations that provide real-world contexts for student learning. Outside of teaching, I lead wildlife surveys, volunteer with habitat restoration projects, and photograph natural ecosystems. I believe that biology education should inspire students to protect and understand the living world, and I bring that conviction to every lesson. My students describe my teaching as passionate, accessible, and transformative.

My biology teaching is engaging and deeply connected to the natural world emphasizing field observation ecological thinking and evolutionary principles. For ecology I teach students to design surveys analyze population data and understand community dynamics through real case studies and field data. Conservation biology is taught through the study of endangered species habitat restoration and the policy frameworks that protect biodiversity. Evolutionary biology is presented as the central explanatory framework that connects genetics behavior paleontology and biogeography. I use an outdoor and inquiry-based approach whenever possible encouraging students to observe local ecosystems collect data and draw scientific conclusions. My lessons incorporate extensive use of ecological data sets conservation success stories and discussions of current environmental challenges. For exam preparation I teach students to use ecological terminology accurately interpret graphs and tables and construct well-reasoned arguments about environmental issues. I also emphasize the development of scientific skills including hypothesis testing data analysis and the communication of findings. My teaching is passionate evidence-based and aimed at producing environmentally literate citizens.
