About Lucy
Hi! I’m Lucy (though you’ve probably figured that out already!). I’m a mum of two, and when I’m not teaching, I love reading, being outdoors, keeping active, and spending time with friends. I’ve always been drawn to education—my mum worked in a school, so I grew up seeing how rewarding it can be. After studying Theatre and Performance at the University of Plymouth, I spent six months in Istanbul teaching English, then a year in Australia working as a nanny. When I came back to the UK, I completed my PGCE, and that’s when my teaching journey really began. I loved working in a mainstream primary school, but I also realised that not everyone learns in the same way. Sometimes big classrooms can make learning harder for certain students, even though they’re just as capable. That’s what led me to tutoring with the charity I work for now. I discovered how powerful 1:1 teaching can be—being able to personalise lessons, match someone’s interests, and explain things in a way that makes sense to them. I take a lot of pride in helping young people feel confident and enjoy learning again. I genuinely love what I do, and I hope I get the chance to share that with you.

I believe that every student learns differently, and I’m committed to understanding each learner as an individual—their interests, personality, strengths, and the specific challenges they face. By getting to know my students, I’m able to tailor each lesson to suit their needs and help them learn with confidence. I taught in a mainstream primary school for eight years and have spent the past two and a half years tutoring for a charity that supports young people who are unable to access mainstream education. Supporting students in discovering a love of learning is truly my passion, and I look forward to sharing that with you.
