About Ivy
I am a Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Alberta, currently working as an Engineer-In-Training. I have 9 months of experience working as a Career Advisor for undergraduate students at the U of A, and currently volunteer as a student mentor for the Faculty of Engineering.
I have tutored my sister and peers over the years and can teach mathematics from a Grade 1 to 12 level. Given my previous experience, I can also advise in resume & cover letter writing, mock interviews, and career planning.

My general approach is to first ask the student if there are any specific areas they are struggling with. I prepare the lesson with an overview of the theory, then work through an example. For the next example, I encourage the student to work through it while explaining their thought process so that I can guide them in the right direction. However, as I get to know the student, I can adjust the teaching style to fit the student’s needs best.
I like to customize my teaching method by understanding the student’s learning style. Does the student learn by watching or doing examples? Does the student prefer learning by reading or listening to theory?
I have found that the times that I personally have seen the most success in my learning was when my teacher took the time to deliver the lesson in a way that I could understand it best - and I want to extend that approach to the students I teach.
