About Allison
I have an MA in English Literary Studies where I specialized in Contemporary Literature; I also have a BA in English (Honours). I specialize in thesis construction, essay structure, grammar, and MLA citation. My favourite genres are poetry and contemporary literature but I am able to teach many different kinds of literature across historical time periods. I have experience tutoring at the elementary, secondary, and university level as well as teaching ESL and GED prep to adult learners.

I thoroughly explain a consistent framework for essay structure and thesis construction that I then work with the student(s) to apply to their specific requirements. This framework acts as a reliable guide from which to proceed in many directions according to the parameters of the assignments. I focus specifically on the close reading technique for analyzing literary texts as well as bringing in particular aspects of critical literary theory that would be relevant and helpful to the topic of the assignment. I encourage students to come to their own conclusions about literary texts rather than trying to find a "right" answer; studying literature is more about finding where different paths can lead rather than any single destination.
