About Nina

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
I have been a teacher in the Surrey School District for 19 years and have taught all subjects and grade levels at the elementary level. Currently, I teach as a Learning Support Teacher, teaching struggling students reading and writing, homework/project help, and test preparation.

I regularly attend professional development workshops in literacy (reading and writing) to ensure that I have the most current strategies to teach my students.

About the lesson

- Tutoring for Emerging, Developing, Proficient, and Extending learners: below, at, or above grade level
- Reading: Explicit, systematic, phonics-based approach for reading. Orton-Gillingham approach used as part of the reading program.
- Writing: explicit, systematic approach teaching sentence level skills and applying them to paragraph and multi-paragraph writing
- Specialized in teaching students with learning disabilities in Reading (dyslexia) and Writing (dysgraphia)
- Consultation, initial and ongoing assessment to identify students' needs
- Individualized programs to meet students' needs based on initial and ongoing assessment
- Regular communication with parents and teachers to maximize students' learning
- 1-1 sessions
- 2 sessions a week is recommended
- Location: student's home or library
- Qualified to teach English - KG to Gr. 10
