About Andrew

For many years I have wanted to become an educator. While taking my Master's degree in history (where I also did a minor in English) at the University of Waterloo, I was praised for my work as a teaching assistant by both my supervisor and the students in my class, who said that I was attentive to their needs, was able to answer their questions on the assignments clearly and provided useful feedback on their work.
I have always had a passion both for reading and for spoken language and vocabulary. I have experience with teaching both adult and youth students. My teaching supervisors have praised me for my ability to create engaging and practical lessons that helped the students to better grasp basic English vocabulary. The feedback I received from the students themselves praised my helpfulness and attentiveness to their individual needs as well as friendliness and approachability. I have received favorable and encouraging feedback for my work with classes from CLB 1 and upwards.
When not performing paid work, I have gone out of my way to seek volunteer teaching positions in order to practice and fine-tune my skills to an ever higher degree, where my teaching co-workers have praised my ability to run classes effectively, from practice handouts and group activities to marked assessments that counted directly towards the students' overall grades. I strongly feel the need to go into teaching because I find it very satisfying to pass on knowledge and to help students figure out concepts for themselves through guidance and friendly support.

About the lesson

I can work directly with students individually or in a group.
I have taught English as a Second Language and worked as a teaching assistant in English and history classes.
I can help with either learning English as your second language or help with your literacy, writing and reading comprehension in most subjects related to the arts and humanities.
I can help put together lessons and materials based on your specific needs.
I have worked with students in grade school and adults of all ages including university students, so I have broad experience with working with different students at different levels with different needs.
