About Alex

Music has always been part of my life and has been something I have loved as far back as I can remember. There is no doubt in my mind that I want to pursue a career as a professional musician. I started having violin lessons at the age of 5,piano lessons at the age of 9 and studied composition at the age of 12. My first musical involvement and commitment was at the Richmond Music Trust at the age of seven, when I played in the string and chamber orchestras, which I had the privilege of leading for two years between 2006 and 2008. At this point I received a scholarship to attend the RCM Junior Department on Saturdays, where I studied under Erik Houston and Eszter Boda Katona. I joined the NCO in 2005 and raised £1200 for their 30th Anniversary Gala Concert in Birmingham Symphony Hall.In addition in 2006 I was part of the School Proms in The Royal Albert Hall, which was a very exciting experience.I have also been involved in additional funding events, including a quartet concert in Fortnam & Mason. The NCO enabled me to play great orchestral music with boys and girls of my age, conducted by established and very inspiring conductors such as Natalia Luis-Bassa and Howard Williams. It also provided me with the opportunity to play in some of Britain's leading concert halls such as Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Sage Gateshead.
I began to study at Chetham's in September 2011 and their Symphony Orchestra has expanded my orchestral experience through in-depth work under the baton of Paul Mann, Jack van Steen,Paul McCreesh and Stephen Threlfall in fabulous concert halls such as The Barbican,The Royal Festival Hall and the Bridgewater Hall.I have covered a wide range of repertoire as well as increasing my listening skills, communication skills through music and learning from different conductors.
From an early age chamber music has been a passion of mine, ever since I saw the Belcea quartet perform at a local venue in 2004 and, with great coaching from the RCMJD,a piano trio I was in was invited to perform at Wigmore Hall in September 2009.I have also played in chamber ensembles at Chet's,most notably in 2013 where I was playing viola for the first time, in my quartet.Apart from performing in external concerts regualrly we won the York Chamber Music Festival U-18 category , as well as performing alongside the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
Moreover I reached final round of the International Competition Jugend Musiziert,as well as attending rehearsals with Julia Fisher and Joshua Bell when directing the Academy of St. Martins of the Fields.Masterclasses with Sigyn Fosness and Detlef Hahn have also increased musical development.
I also have passion for composition and have studied under Martin Suckling at the RCMJD, having my pieces regularly performed, including at Bluethners Piano Centre.I was additionally highly commended in a carol competition at Chet's, have composed a piece for NCO, and had numerous pieces performed at Chetham's.

I now attend the Royal College of music studying a joint degree on Violin and viola and I compose in my free time.

I have always strived to be a professional musician and feel that my various achievements and experiences enhance my general musicianship.
