About Dana
Hello! I’m an experienced ESL educator with over 20 years of teaching students from grade 1 through university, both in the classroom and online. My journey as an educator has taken me across the globe, including several years teaching ESL in South Korea, where I learned firsthand the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with my students. My teaching philosophy centers on making language learning fun, interactive, and practical. I believe in creating a relaxed yet focused environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with language through conversation, games, and real-life scenarios. This approach helps students build not just their language skills but also their confidence and motivation. What sets me apart is my ability to cater lessons to each student’s unique learning style, whether you’re just starting to learn English or preparing for advanced academic exams. I bring a blend of experience, academic knowledge, and a personal touch to every lesson, ensuring that students not only learn but enjoy the process.

My Approach as a Tutor:
As a dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience. I use a student-centered, interactive approach that focuses on creating a fun and engaging learning environment. My methodology is built around building confidence and encouraging conversational practice through games, real-world scenarios, and active participation. I believe that language learning should be enjoyable and meaningful, so I design lessons that cater to each student’s individual needs, whether it’s for academic improvement, practical communication skills, or test preparation.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Warm-up (5-10 minutes): I start with a casual conversation or a game to help students feel comfortable speaking. This encourages fluency and creates a relaxed atmosphere.
Main Focus (15-20 minutes): We dive into the key lesson, whether it's vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, or writing. I tailor the material to the student's needs and ensure that they’re actively participating. I like to use multimedia resources, like videos, articles, and songs, to enhance learning.
Interactive Practice (10-15 minutes): I incorporate games, role-playing, or pair work (if working with multiple students) to reinforce what we’ve learned. This could include quizzes, flashcards, or conversation simulations.
Review and Homework (5 minutes): We wrap up with a short review, a few personalized practice exercises, or a reflective question for the student to think about until the next lesson.
What Sets Me Apart:
I am passionate about making each lesson engaging, interactive, and relevant to the student’s personal learning goals. With experience teaching ESL overseas (South Korea), a Master's degree, and ongoing PhD studies, I bring not only a wealth of practical experience but also a deep understanding of the academic side of language acquisition. I’ve taught ESL to students ranging from elementary school to university level, adapting my lessons to each individual’s needs. My ability to make learning feel natural and enjoyable, while still challenging students, sets me apart from other tutors.
Who My Lessons Are For:
My lessons are ideal for ESL learners of all levels—from grade 1 to university students—who want to improve their language skills in an engaging and practical way. Whether you're a beginner learning basic conversation, an intermediate student looking to improve fluency, or an advanced learner preparing for university exams or academic writing, I can tailor my lessons to meet your specific needs. My approach is flexible and can be applied to both young learners and adults, ensuring each lesson is suited to the student's level, goals, and interests.
