About Alex

From the UK, currently based in Canada. Since graduating university in 2015 I have worked and traveled throughout Australia, New Zealand, Norway and am now settling in Canada.

- Played national level in the UK achieving team gold at BUCS Champs in 2014 and now competing in the regional tournaments in Atlantic Canada.
- Badminton England Level 2 Coach since 2012.
- Worked for Badminton England in 2012- Higher Education Development Officer, Loughborough University.
- Learned from some of the most successful coaches in the UK such as Andy Wood (Team GB Olympic Head Coach).
- BSc Sport Science and Management graduate, Loughborough University, UK- 2014.
- I also have a number of different sports coaching qualifications from the UK including Higher Sports Leadership award, fundamentals of movement and LTA Tennis Leadership Award.

About the lesson

Currently based in Atlantic Canada my areas for coaching are strictly in and around Halifax.

I like to approach badminton coaching by first understanding the players needs and goals- Improve fitness, learn fundamentals or compete in tournaments?

With a background in Sport Science and management, I have a broad understanding of coaching principles, sport psychology and physical conditioning, adding depth and clarity to my sessions.

Having coached national level juniors in the UK I follow a structured approach keeping sessions focussed on progression over time. My ethos reflects the need to work as hard in training as you do in competition to achieve the best results.

A typical lesson will often involve footwork and positional scenarios, shot specific practice for repetition and both restricted and open play to put things into a realistic perspective.

Individual coaching- $60 p/h + court hire (shuttles included)

Group Coaching- Drop-in style sessions with no fixed agenda but emphasis on building fundamentals, tactics and court-side advice:

- Small group (4-8 persons)- $60 p/h
- Medium group (8-16)- $70 p/h
- Large group (16-32)- $80 p/h

Block Coaching (Bootcamp style)- Structured sessions with planned progressions based on individual needs and goals (video analysis included):

4 weeks (1hr):
- Small group (4-8)- $300
- Medium group (8-16)- $350
- Large group (16-32)- $450

4 weeks (2hr):
- Small group (4-8)- $600
- Medium group (8-16)- $700
- Large group (16-32)- $900
