About Anna

About Me

I am a passionate, state-certified educator with a career dedicated to secondary education and language instruction. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Library Science (MLS), my professional life has centered on understanding how people learn, process language, and build lasting academic confidence.

Having spent my career in the classroom teaching Spanish, I have worked with hundreds of students who walked into my room convinced they simply "weren't good at languages." I know firsthand how intimidating foreign language mechanics can feel when a fast-moving class moves ahead before the foundations have truly clicked. My approach in one-on-one instruction is warm, highly encouraging, and deeply systematic: I strip away the overwhelm, meet learners exactly where their understanding currently sits, and help them realize that language acquisition is a puzzle with logical rules, not a mystery.

Beyond mechanics and test prep, I strive to make my sessions a low-stress, engaging space where students feel entirely safe making mistakes—because mistakes are where real learning happens. When I’m not teaching or tutoring, I am a lifelong reader, researcher, and avid learner. I love helping students find their own academic rhythm, conquer classroom hurdles, and experience that rewarding "lightbulb moment" when everything finally makes sense.

About the lesson

What Sets Me Apart
Career Classroom Expertise: I am a state-certified educator who has spent an entire career teaching Spanish. I don't just speak the language; I understand state and national curriculum standards, how textbook series structure units, and the exact grading pitfalls teachers look for.

Advanced Curriculum & Instructional Design (MEd): With a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I don't use generic one-size-fits-all tutoring tricks. I analyze how individual learners process information, design tailored adaptations on the spot, and build systematic review routines that actually fit a student's cognitive style.

Empathetic, Judgment-Free Environment: High school foreign language anxiety is real. My sessions are an absolute safe space to make mistakes, ask the questions students are often too embarrassed to ask in front of 30 peers, and rebuild lost confidence.

Who These Lessons Are For
Target Levels: Middle school, high school, and introductory college levels:

Spanish 1: Laying clean foundations (pronunciation, basic sentence order, subject-verb agreement, present tense regular/irregular verbs).

Spanish 2: Mastering the pivotal middle-tier hurdles (stem-changers, reflexives, preterite vs. imperfect, direct/indirect object pronouns).

Spanish 3 & Intermediate: Refining complex mechanics (subjunctive mood introductions, advanced transitions, longer reading comprehension, and conversational fluency).

Ideal Candidates:

Students experiencing a sudden grade drop transitioning between language levels.

Learners overwhelmed by fast-paced classroom instruction who need concepts broken down step-by-step.

High-achieving students looking to ensure an A or get ahead of upcoming units before tests hit.
