About Peter

I am a UK-qualified Computer Science and ICT teacher with over 17 years of teaching experience across schools, colleges and online education.

I specialise in GCSE and IGCSE Computer Science and have extensive experience teaching Computing, ICT and Digital/IT qualifications, including GCSE Computer Science, Cambridge IGCSE, OCR, BTEC, OCR Cambridge Nationals and iMedia.

I have also taught higher-level programmes, including HNC and foundation degree courses.

As an experienced classroom teacher and private tutor, I understand that students often need help with both the technical content and how to apply their knowledge effectively in examinations. I therefore combine clear explanations with targeted exam practice.

I can support students with areas including:

- Programming and computational thinking
- Algorithms and problem solving
- Computer systems and architecture
- Networks and cybersecurity
- Data representation
- Boolean logic
- Databases
- Software and programming concepts
- Exam technique and extended responses
- Revision and past-paper preparation

I work with students of different abilities, from those struggling with the fundamentals through to high-achieving students aiming for the top grades.

My approach is friendly, patient and structured. I believe students make the greatest progress when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and working through difficult concepts.

I work with students throughout the UK and internationally, with every programme tailored to the student's qualification, exam board, current level and target grade.

About the lesson

Every lesson is personalised around the student's needs, qualification and target grade.

Lessons are interactive and make extensive use of screen sharing and shared documents. This allows us to work through programming, algorithms, theory and examination questions together rather than relying on passive explanations.

Depending on the student's needs, lessons can include:

- Clear explanations of difficult Computer Science concepts
- Programming and problem-solving practice
- Algorithms, pseudocode and computational thinking
- GCSE and IGCSE past-paper questions
- Exam technique and command words
- Identifying and correcting common mistakes
- Targeted revision following mock examinations
- Building confidence in weaker areas

For programming topics, I focus on helping students understand the logic behind their code rather than simply giving them an answer. For theory topics, we work on both understanding the content and expressing that knowledge effectively in an examination.

I can also provide personalised materials and lesson notes for students to use between sessions.

Whether you need regular weekly tuition, help with a particular topic or intensive preparation before an examination, lessons will be focused on the areas where you can make the greatest progress.
