About Andrew
I am an experienced and dedicated criminology lecturer, currently working as an Associate Professor, with a strong track record of supporting students to achieve their academic goals. I bring both academic expertise and a practical understanding of policing and criminal justice, allowing me to offer clear, relevant, and engaging support.
I have taught and led university-level courses in criminology and social sciences, and have extensive experience helping students improve their essays, dissertations, and research skills. My students value my ability to explain complex ideas in a straightforward way, as well as the detailed, constructive feedback I provide to help them progress.
I take a professional, reliable, and approachable approach to tutoring. I understand that studying criminology can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I focus on building confidence alongside academic ability. My approach to tutoring is student-centred, supportive, and tailored to individual learning needs. I aim to build confidence as well as academic skill, helping students not only understand criminological and social science concepts, but also apply them effectively in assignments and exams.
Teaching methodology & techniques
I combine clear explanation with active learning. This includes breaking down complex theories into accessible ideas, using real-world examples (particularly from policing and criminal justice), and guiding students through structured discussions. I place a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking, essay writing, and research skills. Where appropriate, I use model answers, feedback on written work, and step-by-step guidance on how to plan and structure assignments. Sessions are interactive, allowing students to ask questions and work through problems in real time.
Typical lesson length
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, which allows enough time to focus on key topics while maintaining concentration. Longer sessions (90–120 minutes) are available for more in-depth support, such as essay writing, dissertation guidance, or exam preparation.
Qualifications & experience
I am an Associate Professor in Criminology with extensive experience teaching at university level. I have led degree programmes and taught across a range of topics including policing, criminological theory, and research methods. I also have significant experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, and supporting students to improve their academic writing and achieve higher grades.

My lessons are primarily aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students studying criminology or related social sciences. I also support Higher and A-level students who are preparing for exams or transitioning to university study. Lessons are suitable for anyone looking to improve their understanding of criminology, strengthen their essays, or develop research and analytical skills.
