About Thomas

As an Ontario College of Teachers member in good standing and current high school Math Teacher I am very aware of what students are required to know under the Ontario Curriculum. I have 8 years of experience teaching High School Math including students with special educational needs, for example, those with Anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I have a degree in Mathematics (Honors Bachelor of Science), a Bachelor of Education, and a Master's of Actuarial Science. I also have 7 years of real world experience as an Actuarial Analyst. I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my tutoring sessions to help you achieve your goals, for example, improving your grade in order to get into a University program. I have a calm and patient approach and focus on putting theory into practice in order to quickly comprehend the important concepts so that students can quickly improve their grades in whichever math course(s) they are taking.

About the lesson

Hi, I am an experienced High School Math Teacher. I am able to provide one-to-one or small group tutoring for all of the high school Math courses under the Ontario curriculum, including Functions, Advanced Functions, Data Management & Calculus.

My focus as a tutor is to tailor my teaching to your specific needs, whether that be ensuring you are able to pass a course to improving your grade to the level you need in order to get into the College or University or your choice.

Included in my fee is travel to and from your home if you choose in person lessons, and for my preparation before and after lessons. You just pay for the time spent together during each lesson.

I also have experience teaching students with special educational needs and adapting my teaching practice to align with their specific needs and IEP requirements.

As a teacher I am well aware of how one-to-one help can provide students with the extra learning they need to succeed in Math but is often impossible for classroom teachers to provide given limited time and large class sizes. Being a teacher, I am familiar with the curriculum expectations. Through focused teaching I can help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you need to be to achieve your goals. I am very calm, patient and am able to explain mathematics in a way that is easy to understand no matter what course you require help in. Math is a subject that takes practice to master. As an experienced classroom teacher I can help narrow down the instruction I give to what is most important to help you reach your learning goals as quickly as possible.

I charge $80 per hour. This includes the time I spend preparing for each lesson and travel to and from your home. So you only pay for the time we spend together during the lesson.

I also do small group lessons at a reduced rate of $40 to $50 per hour per student depending on the size of the group.
