About Eve
Hi! Welcome to my tutoring profile. I am a Sheffield-based maths tutor. I focus on developing my students' confidence with mathematics. Creating a relaxed learning environment where a student feels comfortable to express when they are struggling, and offering encouragement, are as integral to my teaching method as sharing my technical expertise and experience as an examiner. I have the following experience: - 10 years offering private tuition for GCSE and A Level; - I was a lecturer on the Sheffield foundation year, teaching A Level maths to students who had attained B-D grades and aiming to bring them up to A/A* standard; - I direct a maths summer school at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge for Y12 students, design all the teaching materials and provide training and support to all of the teaching staff; - Experience tutoring GCSE students with target grades between A* and C. All of my students have gone on to achieve A* grades, including those who came to me with a C target grade; - 4 years as a senior examiner for STEP, the Cambridge maths admissions test; - 5 years as a Cambridge maths admissions interviewer; - 4 years as a supervisor / tutor at the University of Cambridge and the University of Sheffield.

My methods centre on listening to what a student is struggling with and breaking down the problem to allow a student build intuition that makes their understanding "stick". Then, we work on consolidating and extending that understanding through tailored problems that I write for each student. Consequently, my tuition sessions often consist of several extended two-way conversations whilst a student gets to grips with a concept. If part of the syllabus, or set questions, are causing confusion, then in a typical lesson, we: - Identify questions from your lessons that did not make complete sense to you; - Explore each question bit by bit to uncover the underlying concept(s) that need solidifying in your mind to make the question easier; - Look at different ways of understanding that concept until we find one that better suits how you think; - Make a memory aid to solidify this new way of thinking, and try other questions similar to the one that first caused problems; - I will set questions aimed to push your new understanding further. In the case that school learning has been going smoothly, we will explore more difficult questions that build your problem-solving ability to enable you to obtain the highest mark possible in your exams.

Eve is very patient and explain things very clearly. She has a fun and engaging way teaching maths
Eve was an essential part of my training for the STEP admissions test. She provided me with mock interviews as well as 1-1 support with answering maths problems. I would highly recommend Eve as a tutor for anyone wanting to become a stronger Maths student.
Eve is an incredible tutor. She has provided me with 1-1 support before I begin my studies at Cambridge, supporting with content beyond the A-level and STEP specification. She is patient, compassionate and relatable, and trains you to become a well-rounded problem-solver. I recommend eve to any maths student, I wouldn’t be where I am mathematically without her
