About Jake

I am a passionate software and data engineering professional from the UK with a wealth of industry experience, and I genuinely enjoy helping others grow their skills and confidence in this field. I have over 6 years of hands-on experience working across software development and data engineering, and I bring real-world insight into every lesson.

Alongside my professional work, I have experience developing structured learning content for a leading pharmaceutical company, as well as previous experience working as a math tutor. These roles have strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and support students in achieving their goals.

I am particularly passionate about upskilling others - whether that means helping someone pass an exam, transition into a tech career, or progress in their current role. Seeing students gain confidence and develop practical, valuable skills is what motivates me.

I pride myself on being professional, reliable, and approachable, creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress at their own pace.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is highly personalised and practical, focusing on helping each student build real understanding through hands-on examples. I tailor every lesson to the individual - whether you’re just starting out with Python or Go, or looking to deepen your knowledge of APIs, software architecture, and real-world application development. I place a strong emphasis on learning by doing, using clear examples and guided problem-solving to reinforce key concepts.

I also bring extensive data engineering expertise into my lessons, including experience with Databricks, PySpark, Azure Data Factory, and SQL. This allows me to support students who are studying for exams, transitioning into tech careers, or aiming to strengthen their professional skillset in both software and data engineering.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but I’m flexible depending on your needs and goals. I teach all levels - from complete beginners to advanced learners - and can adapt the pace and depth accordingly.

With over 6 years of industry experience across software and data engineering, along with multiple certifications in Databricks, AWS, and Azure, I provide insights that go beyond theory and reflect real-world practices. I also have experience creating structured learning content for Python and Databricks/PySpark, which helps me explain complex topics in a clear and approachable way.

Lessons are available online or in person in Sydney, and are suitable for students of all ages, university learners, and professionals looking to upskill or prepare for technical roles.
