About Cynthia

I've been tutoring accounting for five years, working with college students and high school students in Financial, Managerial, and Intermediate Accounting. I graduate with my Master's degree in Accounting, with a focus in Audit, this December 2020. In 2016 I won first place in the state of Texas in UIL Accounting for 4A schools, which started me on my path to getting a degree in Accounting. I've begun to study for my CPA exam and will be certified by May 2021.

I got started tutoring through UNT's Supplmental Instructor program. I worked as an "SI" for two years, working with specific class sections by holding outside-of-class optional sessions that cover class material again and in a different way to help the students learn the material. I enjoyed it immensially and would have stayed as an SI indefinitely, but found a position in the UNT Accounting tutor lab that worked better with my schedule.

I've studying accounting at the University of North Texas since 2016. I'll graduate with my Master's degree this December 2020 in Accounting with a focus in Audit. I'll be CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certified in May 2021. I've been tutoring students in Financial, Mangerial, and Intermediate accounting since 2017 in one-on-one, virtual, and blended sessions.

About the lesson

I always begin by discussing what a new student wants to get out of tutoring. Do they need help understanding a specific topic? Do they want to focus on real-world applications of the topics they are learning in class to solidify them? Do they just want to pass an exam? This will lay the groundwork for us to work through to reach the student's goals.

I've mostly worked with undergraduate college students. However, I have worked with high school students in the past.

Make sure the teacher has experience. If they do, then they will be able to approach each student in they way that they need them to. In other words, be able to apply their teaching methods to each student's needs.

This past spring, I worked as an accounting tutor at the Accounting tuturing lab at UNT. A student came in nearly every week for help with her homework. Near the end of the semester, we were working on a particularly difficult problem she became excited and worked through the problem with a fantastic attitude. She was originally a Finance major, but after that tutoring session, she told me she was switching her major to Accounting.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about their ultimate goals for learning. Do they want to learn the information for the sake of an exam or in order to better understand the reason behind the methods they are learning in class?
