About Louis

I am an Acting Teacher with experience in Stage/Screen/V.O. Production. I have a Fine Arts Degree in Acting for Film. With my background in Stanislavsky and The Meisner Technique, I will give you the tools you need to investigate your role and draw from your personal well of emotion to live truthfully in imaginative circumstances.

My parents were teachers. I grew up watching them. I developed what my own Meisner Instructor calls "The Eye". This is my first foray into sharing my gift as a teacher, but I have directed stage and screen projects for many years.

I have had stage performance training since 12 years of age. As a teenager I was an All-State Performer in solo improvisation. I studied Meisner at University and Film School and performed as an Acting Apprentice at the Tony Award Winning Williamstown Theatre Festival. I received a BFA in Acting for Film from the New York Film Academy, and my career has spanned media from stage to screen and voiceover.

About the lesson

I will first ask what the student's performance goals are. I will then create a lesson plan based on their goals using material that they are excited about and feel comfortable with. I will also give actors exercises to help open themselves up and release tension for better use of their instrument.

I have worked with children and adults alike; people who are just dipping their toe in the pool of performance and others that I feel confident in calling collaborators. If you have the desire to learn the craft of acting and the discipline to prepare for lessons in your own time, I can work with you.

When looking for an acting instructor, find one that works well with you. It may take two or three lessons to feel each other out, but if you don't feel motivated, then maybe it's time to move on, and that's fine. Some people/personalities just don't mesh. But no matter what: A GOOD TEACHER DOES NOT FEED THEIR EGO BY MAKING A STUDENT FEEL LIKE LESS OF A PERSON OR PERFORMER.

I recently reconnected with old community theater friends from my past and we put together a quick Zoom Reading of a play for broadcast.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a prospective student, ask yourself WHY you want to act. Is it because you want fame and fortune? If so, I can't teach you that. If you want to act because you want to build self-confidence, learn more about the human condition, and enjoy investigative, collaborative, emotional work(or maybe you just got "the acting bug"), then I am at your service.

ACTING AND PERFORMANCE CAN DREDGE UP EMOTIONAL SITUATIONS. I AM NOT A LICENSED THERAPIST NOR WILL I OPERATE AS ONE. IF EMOTIONS TOO PERSONAL TO THE STUDENT ARE TRIGGERED, I WILL ADVISE WE SWITCH UP THE CURRICULUM AND RECOMMEND THE STUDENT SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP FOR THEIR TRAUMA.
