About Melissa

I specialize in working with kids and putting actors on tape for auditions. For non-auditions, we practice on-camera so you can see your work. (Have an SD card!) Have a 1-2 minute scene memorized (or longer if it's for an audition) and we can play! We’ll focus on being believable on camera, finding the character, understanding the scene, and listening / reacting in the moment. I’ve worked with reknown Hollywood acting coach Crystal Carson (General Hospital), have studied with several reknown coaches including Scott Sedita (sitcom acting) and John Swanbeck (director of ‘The Big Kahuna’), am a level 4 graduate in improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade, and hold a bachelor’s in Film Production from Grand Valley State in Grand Rapids, MI.

Acting is heightened make-believe; an opportunity to play and grow creativity. While you're working on your acting technique - learning how to express yourself, having fun with your personality, exploring your character's motives, and authentically being with your co-actors, you're really exploring and developing yourself as a human being.

Bachelor's in Film Production

Acting Training - Larry Moss, Howard Fine Studio, Brian Reise Studio

On-Camera Training - John Swanbeck

Auditioning Training - Margie Haber Studio, Crystal Carson

Sitcom Training - Scott Sedita, Tony Rago

Improv Training - Level 4 Graduate @ Upright Citizens Brigade

Commercial Training - Chris Game, Carolyne Barry, Jonathan Klein

About the lesson

Children ages 6 - 12, and beginner / intermediate actors (all ages) with some training / experience.

Every student has a different way of learning and every teacher has their own way of teaching - find a teacher that works for you. I think it's important for acting students to see themselves on-camera so they can see what's working - sometimes what "feels" right doesn't always "look" right, although eventually they should come together. Also, find a teacher that's the right balance of encouraging and constructive so that you can grow at the right pace (for you!) so that you can build confidence as well as competence - both are critical to being a performer - and so that you feel comfortable enough so you can be free to play!!!

Also, know what level you're at. If you're a beginner-level actor or have some experience / training - I may be a great fit for you! If you're a seasoned, working actor - I'm probably not a good fit for you. ;)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What would you like to work on? Character developement? Script analysis? Being in-the-moment? Being natural in front of the camera? Building your confidence? Let me know!
