About Daria M

Hi there! My name is Daria M. Sullivan and I am a professional actor (EMC, Actors' Equity Membership Candidate) with some voice and dance training. I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Theatre Arts and Communication.

During my undergraduate career, I performed as various characters in a diverse collection of shows. My credits include: Gary Coleman in Avenue Q, Tristán in Dog in the Manger, Ronny in Hair, Shelby in Baltimore, Francesca in Nine, and Oberon's Attendant in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The culmination of my successes resulted in my receipt of the Helen Katz award, awarded to graduating senior with excellent contribution in the area of performance. In addition to this award, I received the Dr. Vernell A. Lillie Arts Scholarship for my work and potential as a theatre artist.

Throughout my work, I have received write-ups in both papers in Pittsburgh as well as Montclair (see my LinkedIn profile for quotes and details).

I am currently serving as Assistant to the Artistic Director (internship) at Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre (DRT) in Summit, NJ. This spring, you can find me onstage for their collection of plays entitled, Continuing the Conversation.

I love performing and I have been doing it ever since I was a little girl. Even still, I know what it's like to struggle with believing in yourself and trusting your abilities/talents. I would absolutely love to help you better yourself as a performer and as a person. Whether you're just starting out and need a confidence boost or a bold young actor who wants some technique tips, I'm here to help you. I'm SO very excited to get started!

As an actor, I love the rush I get from being onstage. More than anything, though, I am dedicated to storytelling. That's the main reason why I continue to perform.

As a teacher, I love giving tools to young actors that make them change their perspective on the piece they're working on.

I assisted and observed acting teachers and play production director, choreographer, & music director at Glenfield Middle School. This is how I learned that I love acting/performance coaching.

About the lesson

I'd love to have a conversation about your performance experiences (if any) and what you hope to gain from our session(s).

After that, we'll most likely work on ways to warm-up in preparation to perform/audition.

Then, we'll probably work on whatever piece you'd like (monologue, scene, etc.), tools/tips for auditioning, and/or acting exercises. This part all depends on the student's goal(s).

Middle school and high school students in various subjects

I think the best way to approach this is to look at what your teacher has done, or rather what shows/projects they have participated in.

The next step, is to look at how organized they are when it comes to presenting this information (well thought out bio? link to website with more info?). The more organized they are, the more I'd trust the "product" they're selling (their lessons).

I would say the last performance that made me the happiest was actually in Ghana, West Africa this past summer. I saw a singer perform some old school R&B songs on a rooftop over dinner. I loved the way he made the songs his own and his smooth, jazzy voice. This is a great example of how sometimes less really is more when it comes to performing!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what you hope to gain from your sessions with a teacher. Are you just looking to get out of your shell and comfort zone? Or are you a high school student looking to improve your monologue for a college audition? OR something else entirely? Knowing this will help both you and your teacher.
