About Max

I give coaching tailored to the students needs. If you’re preparing for a last minute audition I can give you the feedback and advice you need to do your best work. If you’re applying to conservatory programs I can help you select the monologues that make you stand out and show off your unique talent. I’m your wing-man in this business called show and I make it a point of pride to help you succeed.

For me it’s about interacting with students and helping them find their footing and produce great work. Acting can be a nerve-wracking thing to do and often you need that outside eye and ear to push past your doubts and really own your audition. I love watching Actor’s work and grow and then seeing that growth impact their careers. It makes me happy to get up every morning, no lie.

I began teaching while I was starting out as an actor in New York because colleagues I knew needed help and perspective on their auditions. I found I enjoyed working on their stuff as much as I enjoyed working on my own and soon I was offering myself as a private coach. I then started to work with undergrad students auditioning for Graduate Schools and high school students auditioning for Conservatories.

I have a 19 year career as a professional actor and have performed on and off Broadway and in television and film. I have been an instructor for 10 years teaching acting to students ranging from the very young to the adult, working professionals and ambitious beginners. I have a BA in English from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from Yale University, School of Drama where I won the Hershel Williams Prize for outstanding ability.

About the lesson

We start with a quick get-to-know-you session. I’m curious about who you are. where you’re from and what you want from me as a coach. Then depending on what you’re working on we’ll get into it. If you’re working on polishing a monologue for an upcoming audition I’ll have you perform it once right away so we can hear it out loud. Then we’ll start to look at it piece by piece, looking for the basics: objective, relationship and given circumstances. From there we start to rehearse it and I’ll stop you (politely) throughout to give feedback and encouragement if needed. Our final goal is to make the speech something fun, that you will enjoy performing and is owned by you. All good acting stems from this.

Actors ranging from 6 years old to 65. I’ve worked with people who are just dipping a toe into performing and seasoned pros who need a little direction.
