About Jeffrey

I have over 30 years in the professioal arts working as a professional Director, Actor, Voice/Diction/Dialect, Audition Techniques and Educator. I have worked with novice performers to professional Broadway artist through out my career and all over the country.

I have success in helping students learn how to land the job, or just further hone their craft. I myself have never been unemployed in the areas of the Entertainment for over the last 30 years and I can help you get there as well.

I also have had success with helping students prepare for school audtions (Undergraduate and Graduate School) as well as professional audtions as I have sat on the other side of the table for casting and school scholarship auditions/acceptance.

Working with more novice artists who want to take the next step. I love to see the discoveries they make from what they learn and when that light bulb goes off.

Training: Acting, Character Development, Voice and Diction, Dialects (over 60, primaries are Standard British, Cockney, American Southern, Irish and other more commonly popular ones.) Vocal Health and Wellness. Scene Work, Audtiion Techniques.

About the lesson

Process is I begin the first 10 minutes getting to know each other and understand their optimal goal. From there we create a plan to help them obtain the goal and give an idea of how long the process might be.

My Teaching Philosophy is as follows:

Giving Knowledge and Facilitating Understanding: Students come to my classes or my programs with many layers of knowledge about course materials and program developments. I try to help these students tap in to their prior knowledge, test it agains what is presented in class or my programs, and use that knowledge as a base on which to build a greater understanding more complex networks of theory, understanding, and behavior.

Theory and Application: I believe that learning requires a deep understanding and desire that can only come when students internalize and actively apply knowledge in creative and meaningful ways. When I teach, I hope that students will be able to relate with a course material in their own lives, applying abstract theatres to what they experience in their everyday world. Ideally, this approach should empower students to articulate ideas and process concepts in ways that are meaningful to them and applicable beyond the classroom.

Helping and Challenging: I also understand that part of a student’s everyday world is the university or the learning environment itself. Thus, my role as an educator includes helping students succeed in the unique culture of education or higher education. While I wasn’t students to be able to personalize their education via active learning, I also recognize that I have expertise from which students may benefit. I believe most students will rise to the challenge when quality work is demanded of them if they are also helped to develop the skills necessary to make that possible. Often I find that students are underestimated and a high quality of work is not always demanded of them. For this reason I encourage critical thinking and the improvement of oral and written skills in all of my classes.

Maintaining Rigor and Encouraging Creative Experimentation: I believe students are best served when they are actively and rigorously engaged in the pursuit of knowledge. An educator may inspire, but students should be actively engaged in the learning process for it to be successful. In an effort to give students greater ownership of the knowledge they encounter, I use cooperative and active learning strategies as well as lecture in my classroom and try to develop assignments that foster both analytical and critical thinking and opportunities for creative application.

Respecting and Supporting a Wide Diversity of Students and Student Needs While Maintaining Balance and Fairness: The study of theatre is, I believe by its very nature, imminently practical; it is practiced and applied by our students and ourselves on a daily basis. As a result, we teach by what we do in the classroom as much as by what we say or see. By modeling good professional performance values and communication, concern and compassion for our students, and a real enthusiasm for our subject matter we also teach the value of our subject. As someone who strongly learned visually throughout my life I strongly value the diversity of leaning styles and the unique perspectives – both individual and culture – that my studies may bring to the classroom. As a result, I strive to provide and environment where students feel comfortable in expressing their needs and opinions. I believe that the entire class benefits and learns from that process.

Like all values, these are ideals for which I am constantly striving but not always fully successful in achieving. I have also found that each institution, organization and each class provides new challenges and opportunities for my own learning as an educator, instructor and scholar. As my students change, I change. As my discipline grows and matures, I am constantly struggling to meet the challenge of passing that knowledge on to my students. But ultimately, I also hope to give the curiosity and skills that will allow them to participate in that knowledge.

Perfect! Jeff challenges you to look deeper into the intentions of characters and draw out the inner emotions they might be holding due to all kinds of factors. His teaching methods have really energized me to learn as much as I can about the VO craft.

Perfect! Requested that he helped me get ready for graduate school. And I worked with him and not only did he give acting lessons and work on my audition pieces. He also gave me advice on how to get a graduate assistantship so hopefully they would pay for most of school. Sence working with him I started this fall with an assistantship due to his advice and now my graduate school is costing almost nothing.

I would also recommend him to high school students who are looking to get into programs for acting.

I cannot recommend him enough for how much he helped me, and how relaxing it was, it was a great experience.
