About Marianne

I have been working as a professional actor and director for over 20 years. With my MFA in Acting, I have also been the head of BFA and MFA acting programs. Currently, I'm working as a freelance director and actor with coaching on the side. My experience with teaching is wide. I have taught in graduate acting programs, professional acting classes as well as working with teens and children. While living in Los Angeles, I was the Producing Director of Actors Co-op theatre company in Hollywood for 3 years. I've seen 1000's of auditions and audition myself. I love the joy of storytelling!

My favorite thing is working with someone and seeing them grow as an artist. When there's a breakthrough and some kind of new understanding happens, it is so exciting! I believe that empathy is one of the main gifts given to the artist and that is something they pass on to the audience. It's one of the biggest needs in our world.

I started teaching acting, voice and improvisation while in graduate school. I've taught private professional classes as well as at universities and for theatre companies.

Find someone who you enjoy working with and who gets you. You should be able to understand the concepts and techniques they are teaching you and you should look forward to the coaching sessions.

Most recently I directed a production of Steel Magnolias for Taproot Theatre Company in Seattle and when I can, I perform in a one woman show by Jessica Dickey (The Amish Project)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your ultimate goal? It may be different from the little goal that is right in front of you.

Sarah

Marianne is an expert director, actor and auditioning coach. I absolutely love working with her! She has such a wealth of experience and knows the questions to ask to get you to where you want to be. She always brings a fun energy and playfulness to the process. The work is serious, but the atmosphere is relaxed. I always leave the room having learned or discovered something new, with a fresh perspective on the material.

Marianne is one of the most knowledgeable, creative, and fun acting/voice coaches I have worked with. She is so brilliant and is generous in sharing her magical tools so you can keep them in your toolbox for the future. It feels like she could solve any theatre-related problem in the world-- she is so wise! Marianne's deep well of knowledge has taught me so much-- from contemporary to classics to dialect coaching.
