About Jordan

With several years of professional acting experience on stages in New York, Washington, and across America, as well as a strong resume in the educational space, I have gathered several techniques and strategies that help students thrive in learning how to become actors. While I am friendly and encouraging in my work, I expect growth from each session and will push you to be your best every time. My students get work at professional theatres--I currently have students working at Arena Stage, Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Studio Theatre, and Theatre J. I also have gathered several resources for young actors that parents and theatre companies have said made their students "more engaged with the work," and I can't wait to share those resources with you!

I especially love working with young actors because they trust the process, and they are less afraid of being silly. Acting requires failing--a lot of failing! Imagine how many audition rooms an actor walks into, only to be told "no," before they get one "YES!" Students have the humility and perseverence for creative work, and they are often quite passionate about theatre. I love bringing quiet students out of their shell, and I love helping boisterous youth harness their voice and energy into a meaningful artistic product that they can be proud of. I enjoy helping actors find their voice!

I began working as a Musical Theatre Teaching Artist with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, and have worked at dozens of regional and professional theatres. I also studied African Theatre and Dance at the University of Ghana. I also have experience in acting for film and television. I was recently the Head of Acting for a regional pre-professional conservatory program for high school actors with several of my students being cast at Arena Stage, Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Studio Theatre, and Theater J. My students were also invited to perform at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

About the lesson

I like to find out prior knowledge first. What do you know? Why do you like acting? Are you interested in a certain style or genre? Are you preparing for an event (talent show, speech, or audition), or are you hoping to do pursue acting professionally long-term? I want to know what a student wishes to gain from me, because acting is all-encompassing (physical, vocal, facial, emotions, awareness, character, etc.) and I want to help with the weaker spots. From there, we can get the student new material (monologues or scenes), and I coach them using several unique strategies and games.

I have taught classes and conducted private lessons for students in preschool through college. I also have a great deal of experience working with young people with special needs.

For acting, it is imperative that you find a teacher who makes you feel comfortable, but one who pushes you to grow during lesson times. Look at where their students are working, and if you start lessons with them and it doesn't seem like a fit, don't be afraid to ask to discontinue. Hopefully they have your best interests at heart and will understand!
