About Jessica

I'm a recent graduate of the BA History of Art course Cambridge and have taught extensively abroad and in and around London. I usually teach on a one-to-one basis, but have been known to teach classes for young children as well as adults in groups of up to forty-five people in a class.

My work in London as a private tutor primarily centres around English up to AS-Level standard, but I have taught extensively in the last few years as a tutor. I have catered for private sessions, as well as small groups of children and young adults. I feel that these experiences have opened up a range of opportunities to me and have made me a more adaptable to new environments and ways of thinking. I consider myself to be well-suited to communicating information well to a variety of audiences, including whole classes of pupils in the Gambia as part of an outreach program designed to address the needs of developing schools there.

For a month in Beijing, I volunteered as a teacher at Yuxin school on a course designed to ‘Teach English through Drama’ offered by MeiJie Consulting. I worked with a team to produce a showcase for the week long summer camp, communicating in both Mandarin and English. I also taught in a professional capacity following a structured lesson plan to improve on lesser able students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

I am fluent in English and proficient in both conversational Chinese (Mandarin) and French. I have a broad reach of interests and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems to complement an avid interest in social networking. Of recent, I have been teaching myself to code and programme in my spare time in order to extend these interests further. I enjoy traveling and have done so extensively for leisure, charity affairs, and educational purposes. I am also a fine artist and musician (Violin), with some experience in performing (Contemporary/Ballet and Theatre/Film); skills which I feel demonstrate my creative capabilities as well as exercising my analytical and lateral thinking faculties.

I'm also a huge fan of the arts and am a self-confessed culture aficionado. I write a lot myself; during my time at Cambridge, I wrote a number of articles and reviews for local theatre and comedy shows, as well as reviewing several albums and assisting on fashion editorials. These were published both online and in the print editions of the student-run paper, Varsity.
