Dance skills transfer into every part of life, giving students more grace, power, and joy in everything they do. I love seeing students blossom as they learn body mechanics, posture, and to clearly express themselves. I live for those "Aha!" moments when students grasp new concepts and master new skills. I also love to hear students laughing and see them smiling, especially when they share that after a rotten day they are leaving class happy and excited.

My first classes, as a student, were in 1995. Since that time, I have studied near and far, through workshops, regular classes, troupe participation, academic study, and private lessons and coaching. I have performed, studied, and taught internationally, particularly in Panama City, Panama, and up and down the Nile in Egypt.

Idena’s secondary education includes degrees in Nursing, Health/PE, and Professional Writing with a focus in Creative Non-Fiction.

Idena Suzanne cross-trains with Ballet, Jazz, and African dances, as well as Yoga, Pilates, cycling, running, skiing, and an ever-evolving regimen of cardio and strength-training exercises. As an instructor, Idena uses her kinesthetic knowledge to emphasize safe dance habits and muscle-driven movements.

Most of all, Idena loves to have fun and share her long-standing passion for Oriental Dance. Experience the Grace, Power, and Joy of Idena!

About the lesson

I appreciate the courage it takes for students to show up at their first class. Belly dance is unique because most American adults did not grow up around belly dance. They didn't study it as a child and they typically don't know much about it. So, beginning belly dance classes are gentle, fun, and sprinkled with cultural tidbits to give new dancers an understanding about the dance, from its historic roots to contemporary themes. Class is a relaxed, encouraging place where 75 minutes passes in a blink. Students proclaim again and again that they can't believe the class is at an end for another week.
