About Hannah

A first year master's student at UC's College-Conservatory of Music, Hannah recently graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Music and English and a minor in Information Systems.

At UNC, Hannah was principal cellist of the UNC Symphony Orchestra, performing the fourth movement of Elgar’s Cello Concerto as a winner of the UNC Concerto Competition. Hannah was also a member of the UNC Baroque Ensemble and other various chamber ensembles. An active chamber musician, Hannah has performed in the UNC Pleyel Celebration Concert, as well as the University Day Processional. She has also performed in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival. In the spring of 2016, she spent the semester in Vienna, Austria, studying chamber music and cello performance with Josef Luitz, former professor at Die Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien.

Hannah has performed in masterclasses for several major pedagogues including Johannes Moser, The Pacifica Quartet, Anne Martindale Williams, and Michael Haber. Hannah currently studies with Ilya Finkelshteyn. Former teachers include Brent Wissick, Nancy Green, Josef Luitz, and David Szepessy.

An active teacher, Hannah has taught private lessons since she was a junior in high school. She enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels.

My interest in teaching music was initially sparked in high school, when a local cello teacher asked me if I wanted to accompany her cello students on the piano and also work on the technique she had been teaching them on the cello. Since I play both the cello and the piano, it seemed like the perfect job for me. For several months I rehearsed with about twelve students individually in preparation for their spring recital. I found great pleasure in helping them become better musicians, so much in fact that I decided to develop a small studio of my own. Throughout my junior and senior year I continued to accompany students on the piano, as well as coach a handful of private students on the cello. Once I started college, I continued my private cello teaching, maintaining a small studio. I love hearing the weekly improvements in my students’ playing and seeing the difference in their musicianship.

I have played the cello for 18 years and have taught for six of those years. I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Music, and am in the process of getting my Master's of Music degree from UC's College-Conservatory of Music.

I have worked with with primarily elementary, middle, and high school students, but I am open to working with people of all ages!
