About Benjamin

I currently teach various styles of music to my students over zoom lessons. Each lesson is taught in accordance to the needs of the individual. If a student wants to learn a Billie Eilish song, we will do that. If they want to learn a concerto, we can go a more traditional route. Having performed classical music as well as improvisatory pop and folk music, I approach music from a well rounded point of view. The most important thing for me is that the student finds their own musical voice through the sounds that they are most passionate about! (I have experience teaching ages 12 and up.)

I enjoy seeing students learn to express themselves freely and feel more confident in their abilities as time passes. Although playing an instrument involves mastering techniques, it is always the goal to play effortlessly and confidently. This is completely possible for anyone who is passionate about music. I love to see students smile and laugh when they improve their skills. I am a teacher who encourages my students with postive thinking and a constant goal to make genuine art. When students feel that they are free from concern and are simply listening to their own voice through the cello, I am overjoyed!

I started teaching when I was in high school. My mom was a piano teacher, so I grew up watching her teach young students in her studio and always dreamed to have the kind of impact on lives that she did. I have taught lessons ever since then!

About the lesson

I always start by asking my student why they started playing cello, what music they enjoy listening to and what kind of goals they have for their art making. If the student has experience playing cello, I will ask them to play a short piece of music that they are most comfortable with. If the student is a beginner, I slowly introduce important aspects of playing the cello while keeping lessons musical and fun! Each student learns differently and will have lessons that are uniquely tailored to their personalities, strengths and goals.

I have worked with beginners from the ages of 12 - 70. I am comfortable teaching all ranges of skill and a broad aray of styles and interests.

I recorded cello on Louis Cole's third album, Time.
