About Gregory
I'm a software engineer at Google who fundamentally believes in the ability of all students to learn, grow, and thrive in their target subjects. I bring with me not only a consistent track record of high performance in Math and CS (perfect GPA in those topics in both college and high school), but also 7 years of experience working with students of many ages and different learning styles.
Are you a visual learner? Or do you prefer formulas? Love proofs? Hate mathematical notation?
No matter how you prefer to think about problems, we can work together with custom lessons and practice about whatever topics have presented difficulty in class.
And along the way I'll teach problem solving strategies, as well as essential techniques for breaking down intimidating problems. Together we'll build confidence in the subjects we cover, as well as the develop skills to excel moving forward!
The most incredible moment as a tutor is seeing a student surprise themself with their own capability. When a student can start to push aside any self-defeating mindsets that might have developed over time and believe in their growth, it makes subsequent problems more fun, and motivates them to try harder in their respective subjects.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Pomona College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also worked there as a TA for 3 different college-level courses.
In addition to my current job, I am a volunteer teacher and curriculum designer for a nonprofit called CS in English, which teaches Computer Science to Japanese and Japanese-American students.

First, I start with a quick 20 minute consultation of what the student's current experience is, and what they're looking for. Eg:
- Struggling in a class, looking to keep up with material
- Preparing for a standardized test
- Looking to build confidence in a particular subject (e.g. "I'm just bad at math...")
Once we've reached an understanding of that, we can either follow along with course materials, or create a custom curriculum to build confidence with the target material
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Are there topics from previous classes that you're still a little shaky on? (Solidifying that foundation first is often more helpful than diving into new material)
What has and hasn't worked with your learning style?
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the teacher's students.
Perfect! We needed a tutor for a more advanced college course, algorithms. Greg really knew the topic and was able to work through specific examples, step by step to help our student understand it.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Greg was super accommodating, able to provide great tutoring and was super adaptive to the problems and providing neat solutions. Overall really inspired Sophie to grow in her overall math confidence, she was thrilled to have gained 3 whole grades.
Good at breaking down problems into their simplest cases and simplest steps. Good at clearing up cryptic problems and confusing textbook/slide/note language. Felt extremely collaborative working with the tutor, rather than being talked down to.
