About Ashley

My focus is on enjoying the process. If you are able to enjoy the daily or weekly small achievements on the way to the bigger goal, it is a complete game changer. That is why my focus is always on the student. Making this the best experience possible for them, yet pushing them to places they didn't know were possible, helping them believe in their abilities and achieving them. If the process becomes enjoyable you end up surpassing your original goal easily and joyfully.

It may sound cliche, but dance truly is a way to communicate with the world, to connect with yourself, to feel free, and to enjoy life in a whole new way. I fell in love with dance as a little girl and feel the most at peace in the world when I am dancing. This is something I hope to help others experience.

I love helping others and watching them exceed their own expectations; so I actually starting teaching back when I was still in high school as a coach for elementary kids. Throughout college I coached JV and Varsity level high school dance teams and taught at a local studio that an amazing dance mentor and friend of mine opened.

I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Dance, Fall 2018. I have danced professionally for Hush Puppies Show Company and as a temporary student of LA Contemporary Dance Company. Performed at Disney World in their parade, at Epcot, and at Hollywood Studios in 2010 and 2013. For the past two years I have worked at Lake Michigan Dance Academy in Allendale, Michigan teaching dance and fitness classes.

Training Experience:

8 years of ballet training, 11 years of contemporary training, 5 years of modern training, 9 years of hip-hop training, 6 years of improvisation, 4 years of site-specific dance experience, 10 years of choreography experience, 11 years of dance team experience, 5 years of coaching experience.

About the lesson

If I am working with a brand new student, the first thing I want to do is get to know them. Knowing who they are, what they do, and why they want to learn is extremely important to me. My main focus is the person I am helping; that they are able to enjoy the learning process, feel comfortable working together, and most importantly exceed and have fun. Being able to connect with them and learn who they are helps us achieve this.

All ranges! I have worked with students as young as 3 years of age and adults up to age 40. I take pride in myself on the lasting friendships that I have made with everyone I've work with, of all ages. Youngins', middle school, high school, college, and adults.

I recently attended LA Contemporary Dance Company's winter intensive. I was so inspired by the amazing mentors/teachors, the choreography and technique that we learned, and the incredible students around me. I couldn't wait to share what I had learned from working with them to others. It is truly an honor to be able to learn from such welcoming and inspiring professionals and take that knowledge to share with any and everyone who wants to learn.

I have a standard rate that I charge for lessons based on standard studio rates and level of experience. I am open to collaborating with students on a rate that works for them, as I want everyone to have access to the training and help they deserve and desire.
