About Stefanie
I am a NYS certified Earth science teacher. I have been teaching Earth science for 8 1/2 years in NYC public schools. I have administered and graded the Earth science lab practicum, and can assist students in acheiving mastery on the Earth science Regents exam.
I have a passion for Earth science both professionally and personally. I make hands-on lab demos part of the tutoring experience. With my extensive rocks and minerals collection, as well as other lab materials, I help students obtain and maintain a deep understanding of the Earth's complex interrelationships.
I have the following degrees and certifications:
A bachelors degree in English with a minor in forensic anthropology from Adelphi Universtiy.
A masters degree in environmental science from Adelphi University.
A masters degree in Earth science education (7-12) from Columbia University, Teachers College.
A NYS professional teaching license in Earth Science (7-12)

About the lesson

Students will take a short pre-assessment exam, which will be graded on the spot using zipgrade (an app for the iphone, which grades scantrons through scanning).
The pre-assessment will allow me to see where you or your child is struggling most. I will have prepared activities for each topic on the exam.
We will get to work learning basic academic vocabulary, and then making a progression into skills.
Example: if your child struggles with understanding how to interpret seismic data from earthquakes, we will focus first on defining and applying the academic vocabulary for that topic, and then interpretting data and applying it to problems.
