About Harmony
I have been tutoring since my days at Phillips Exeter Academy, and I hold a chemistry and French degree from UC Berkeley. Students get so much more than subject learning with me. Yes, their grades often end up in the A range, no matter how low they started. But even better, they learn to appreciate themselves, because my perceptiveness and intuition help identify why they’re struggling to begin with. I approach students from the perspective that it’s actually pretty challenging to be a kid in today’s society, despite all our privileges; there is a lot that’s confusing and painful, and I address that in our sessions so that students can become happier, more well-rounded and identify their strengths and passions. My students go on to lead engaged lives where they shine. I value life purpose, I model it for my students, and I help them along the path, encouraging them instead of fighting their natural instincts. I was also a curriculum writer at Kaplan Test Prep, where I developed materials for the MCAT, SAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE and state exams. I co-authored MCAT 45 for Simon and Schuster, a medical school entrance exam prep book.
When students work with me, they get results!
I actually started while I was still in high school! I went to boarding school (Phillips Exeter Academy) so I would help the other girls in my dorm with French, math and chemistry, and those are still my top 3 subjects!
I graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy (also attended School Year Abroad France) and UC Berkeley - College of Chemistry. I was the youngest person ever to teach as a graduate student instructor while I was still an undergrad at Berkeley, and went on to teach at Metropolitan Montessori School in New York City as well as various afterschool programs. I was a curriculum developer at Kaplan Test Prep, writing the course materials that help students study as well as co-author of MCAT 45 for Simon and Schuster. I have helped hundreds of students improve their grades, feel better, get into the colleges of their choice and pursue fulfilling careers!

Some students come to me because they're already struggling in a class. Others know their workload will be heavy and are preparing in advance, getting a jump start on the course. I meet with the student, go over their concerns and dive right into the material. I'm patient, funny, caring and super clear in my explanations. Nothing is more important to me than making sure my students feel calm and understand the material.
All types - from football players who are failing chemistry and math to quiet, artsy types too shy to admit to their teachers that they need more help.
Make sure they really know the material, are committed to your success and that you get along and have overlapping schedules!
I was tutoring the older of two boys and when his brother saw how much progress he was making, he wanted tutoring as well. Then the girlfriend of the first boy wanted a session too! But the best part was their little dog they adopted, who is blind, wanting to sit on my lap during our sessions and if I ever stopped petting him for a moment, he would put his paw on my arm to let me know it was time to start petting him again. Too cute!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Of course it's important to know the material. But the rapport is extremely essential as well - do you feel comfortable asking questions and making sure they get answered during the session? That will make all the difference!
