About Lynne
Learning a foreign language enables entry into another culture and another mindset. It offers a journey which is life-changing.
Here in the USA, a country which has welcomed newcomers from so many diverse countries, many of my students seek to re-establish connection with their ancestral homelands. Each student I encounter might have a host of yet to be discovered relatives that they long to link up with. It is a great joy and privilege for me to enable them to rekindle that long lost link.
I gained a Degree in Modern Languages at Reading University, with maximum accreditation. Two years were spent at the French Embassy in London and a year in Paris studying at the Sorbonne. As for Italian, I lived in Milan for nearly 8 years, gaining mother-tongue fluency in both Italian and French. I was Tutor in French and Italian Studies at the Universities of Reading and Southampton, in the UK.
At the University of Reading, England, where I was employed as a Tutor in French.
I later transferred to the University of Southampton, England, where I was employed as a Lecturer in French Studies.
I was brought up in a biligual family hence language learning came effortlessly. Upon graduation from high school, I was appointed to the Cultural Section of the French Embassy in London where all the staff were French and English was never spoken. Thereby, I quickly consolidated my fluency in French and this was further reinforced by my Modern Languages Degree at Reading University. There followed a year in Paris prior to graduation.
I was later assigned to work in Milan, Italy and remained there for 8 years. My Italian fluency attained mother-tongue standard, reinforced by my love of Italian opera and Italian cultural life.

Firstly, assessment of their goals. It is vital to understand what they wish to achieve.
Secondly, assessment of their current knowledge in order to design a customisd program that best suits them.
Thirdly explain in advance my methodology and ensure they are satisfied to proceed.
My dual concern is (1) to provide fluency and confidence in conversation based on good pronunciation; (2) to construct a sound structural basis to the use of the language, enabling the student both to learn and navigate the use of verbs and tenses.
University Students and Working Adults at Corporate Headquarters. I also taught English to Adults at the Oxford Instutite in Milan, Italy.
The most important aspect is the relationship with the teacher. The student needs to feel comfortable and fully at ease with the teacher.
Introducing my young grandson (aged 6) to Italian opera through the Live at the Met Performances.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Firstly, is the student absolutely clear about what he/she is trying to achieve?
Ask him/herself to what degree the teacher has ascertained those needs and taken an interest in the student's goals.
Will the particular teacher enable them to fulfil their needs? Will the course be customised or merely "cookie cutter"?
Will the teacher provide him/her with a structured and identifiable program to enable him/her to control and expedite the learning process?
Will the teacher be prepared to offer homework assignments and mark them between lessons?
