About Deborah
My service stands out because I focus primarily on improving my student's ability to not just translate the language but to think in the language. My native language is English but I started learning French when I was five years old. Therefore, I have first hand experience on how to learn a foreign language. From my services, you will adjust your learning skills so that speaking a foreign language will come naturally almost as if it were your native.
What I enjoy about the work I do is being able to build my students confidence to that they can feel more comfortable speaking, reading and writing in French. I want French to not just be a language to them but a part of their identity. I love to see that transformation of my students starting with speaking just a few words to forming elaborate sentences with a great French accent. It is extremely fulfilling to watch my students immerse themselves in the French language just as I did when I was learning.
I got started teaching because I was approached by a former boss of mine who has a child in the French Immersion Program who seemed to be struggling with grammar and conjugation. I willingly offered my language skills as a service and provided both in-home and online tutoring for over one year.
I have over 17 years experience developping my French language. I was in the French Immersion Program between the ages of 5 and 14. I took Advanced Placement & International Baccaleaurate French courses in high school. Following that, I also studied French in college. I have travelled to both France and Quebec to enhance both my accent and linguo. And of course to embrace the French culture all together.

My typical process for working with a new student is understanding what goal they are trying to reach. For instance, if they need help with conjuagation to perform better on assignments or if they need help with prononciation to feel more confident while speaking.
I have worked with students who were in the French Immersion program who needed more help with the grammar and conjugation aspects of French. I have also work with students who wanted to enhance their conversation skills to feel more comfortable to just think in the language without having to translate.
The advice that I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is don't be afraid to make mistakes. Learning a foreign language can be extremely frustrating only if you don't try. Immersing yourself in the language is the most fun way to feel more comfortable and confident while learning the language.
A recent event that I was fond of was when my former student contacted me and told me that she was still using my techniques to perform well for her French assignments and exams.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The first question any student should think about before talking to teachers about their needs is why they want to receive tutoring for this subject. They should outline a realistic goal for themselves. Including the question of what level do they want to reach for this subject and how long will it take them to reach it.

What I loved about working with Deborah was that she made me feel extremely comfortable. I didn't feel ashamed to practice French with her because she always corrected my errors in a nice way. My French improved a lot and I still use her techniques to help me now.
