About Ana
I am very passionate about helping young learners excel and explore what they themselves enjoy. I am currently a tutor with Voice Advocacy Center. I am also currently a volunteer tutor with Inspired Work, based in Chicago and ENGin, online-based (meant to help Ukrainians feel more confident in the English language). I have also previously volunteered in tutoring English in Spring 2021 (with Children's Literacy Center in Colorado) and am currently a substitute tutor this Fall with this organization. I have recently come back to the United States after completing an exchange year (with CBYX -- Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange, a scholarship awarded to only 250 students yearly) in Germany as my gap year. I knew almost no German before I left and now I have a B2 certification with the Goethe Institute. I have previously had 4 years of Spanish in school. I love languages, and plan on furthering my own language knowledge in the years to come!
Some of my other accomplishments include the AP Scholar Award in 2020 and the AP Scholar Award with Distinction in 2021, along with Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications (in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) in 2016-2018 and an IC3Spark Digital Literacy certification in 2018.
Currently, I am working on my TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) certification and am a college student working on my Associate's degree in Psychology.
I am truly passionate about the work I do. I know it can sometimes be very challenging for both the tutor and the student, but I know that in the end it is worth it. For example, I have worked with a dyslexic child before, and at first he had some challenges distinguishing the different sounds in English, but by the end of they year, he was able to read entire passages by himself.
I started tutoring as a volunteer as a substitute in Fall 2020. Then I became a regular tutor in Spring 2021 for the same organization. I took a year off because I was part of a scholarship-based exchange program in Germany, but now that I am back, I have returned to tutoring. Additionally, I am a paid tutor with Voice Advocacy Center and a volunteer tutor with Inspired Youth.
I graduated high school in May 2021. I am now working on my AS in Psychology and am expected to finish in Summer 2023. Currently, I also work for another tutoring organization (specifically for English literacy help), and volunteered for a similar organization.
Specifically regarding German tutoring, I have a B2 certification in Sprechen (speaking), Schreiben (writing), and Lesen (reading). I am also working on my TEFL certification, which I am expected to complete in February 2023.

For the first session, I usually do not go over too much content. During the first session, I try to introduce myself and understand the student, his/her learning needs, and why he/she is here.
Advice I would give a student looking to hire a tutor is to contact multiple tutors at once and ask a lot of questions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should realize why they want tutoring in the first place (is it for school, is it a hobby, etc.).
Then they should create goals that they want to achieve in the subject and share that with the tutor.
The tutor will then have a better idea of serving the student.
