About Rebecca

For over 20 years I've taught every kind of Hebrew to every kind of student, from kindergarten to retirement age, including many with learning differences. After Bachelor's and Master's in Government, I focused on Mid-East language and politics, and did graduate study at the University of Texas in communications, foreign language educational methods, linguistics, Jewish history, and Hebrew language. I love Hebrew and love finding the best way for each student to learn it.

I teach Hebrew alphabet and reading, and first-year beginning level Biblical, Prayerbook, and Modern Israeli Hebrew. I'm especially good at explaining and drilling grammar and vocabulary. I also do Hebrew-only oral proficiency drills. I've taught at UT, most of our area synagogues, our 2 day schools, the Jewish Community Association, and tutored many individual students. I also tutor Hebrew school and bnei mitzvah students and am familiar with most U.S. standard prayerbooks. I've taught many adult prayer learners as well. So whether you want to learn the prayer service, how to converse in Hebrew, or read the Bible or other religious texts, I can help you out.

If you are already in a class, I'll be happy to work with your particular textbook. If not, I can suggest or provide materials for study. I'm generally available Sunday-Thursday and respond quickly to messages.

About the lesson

I suggest a free first meeting to assess your needs and learning style. In that meeting I find out what you've already done, what you're having trouble with, and what your time frame and scheduling are like. I may even be able to suggest resources you can start with right away.

All: preschool to retiree, all ages and interests, special needs, day school, college, you name it.

Experience and training count. If you just want to improve casual conversation, a native speaker who is frequently in Israel will be ideal. Native speakers are rarely trained to teach their language *to* English speakers, however, nor do they have background in linguistics or language education. You want your teacher to be able to offer resources, tips, and exercises tailored to your needs and level.
