About Rakefet

I started out as a substitute for LAUSD and various temple religious school programs. The adminstration thought I was such a great sub that they promoted me to teaching. I now teach grades 5 and 7 but I have taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th in the past.

I'm half Israeli and American and speak fluent Hebrew. I lived in Israel as a child. I have a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Boston University. I have been teaching religious and Hebrew school at different temples around Los Angeles for the last ten years. I have been tutoring during that time as well.

I teach Hebrew, Judaica, and acting! So besides my Hebrew training, I am an award-winning filmmaker and actor and have been working in the entertainment industry for the last 25 years or so. I also have extensive casting director experience and I teach kids improv and scene study at my school, The Kid (F)Actor - which is currently online only.

About the lesson

I like to asses what their needs are and what level they are at and then tailor a curriculum based around serving their needs.

I have worked with all kinds of students. Some with mild learning disabilities and others who are super quick to learn and need a pace that reflects that focus.

Talk to them on the phone and/or Zoom and make sure that their personality is a fit for you. Make sure you find someone who tries to make it fun or it's hard to keep going.

I found out recently that a student of mine said that if she made a mistake that I would make a funny joke or something to make her feel better. And that she really liked that about me. I wasn't even aware I had done anything special, but to her I had. That was super validating and special to hear.
