About Suman

Students are at the center of my lesson planning process. My first goal is to create an atmosphere thI remember feeling that way the first day I taught a class in 2006 as a primary teacher in a school and hasn’t changed till date. As a teacher, I want my students to enjoy the process of learning while making connections between events and people. I try and engage my students using music, art, primary accounts and literature. I am sensitive to the students back- grounds and goals in my lectures and seminars, aiming to connect with their personal experience. In 2012, I began to teach as an Assistant Professor in University of Delhi. I was given the responsibility of teaching not just honors students but also B.A.Programestudents who were far from being proficient in English, but wanted to become proficient in it. Since Hindi is my mother tongue and I have been trained into English, I could relate to and execute a sympathetic methodology which offered my students an opportunity to become confident and fluent users of English language atencourages participation and involvement. My students, at New York University have helped refine my second language teaching pedagogy. Over the years, I have learned to be flexible enough to employ different strategies if they do not meet the needs of my students.

All students are individual and everyone learns in their own unique way. I use multiple methods of teaching to reach students, so that no one is left behind. Teaching is exhilarating. I never feel more energized than after a class that has gone well.

I have a diploma in elemetary education from SCERT. I have also done my Bachelors of Education from Jamia Millia Islamia University. I have been teaching students from varied background and levels for the past 12 years. i recently was also awarded a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Fellowship by Fulbright Comission. i taught graduate students at NYU for a year under it..

About the lesson

It is important for me to find out the proficiency level of the student through a series of tests so that the future lessons can be planned and delieverd according to the needs of the student.
