About Tomoe

Konnichiwa! I love my language, Japanese, in many different ways - from the ancient texts to a muse by the Studio Ghibli's charactors. When I was young, my teaching subjects were Math and Sciences, but as I became older, I find more people wanting to learn my beautiful language I grew up with, and I feel blessed to share my love of Japanese with them. I am open to teaching Japanese at all levels, and the teaching style is flexible, from a casual conversation to structured curricula in business and/or academic pursuits. I love teaching the students of all ages; I have taught grade levels K-14 in the United States, and some of my college students were of my mother's generation. My Nihongo Kyoushitsu (Japanese classroom) takes place online, thru Zoom for conversation and listening exercises and/or email for writing assignments. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

I love teaching Japanese and what I spent my lifetime with, such as beautiful world we live in and how science of biology or spiritual and ancient texts explain about it. I am into ancient ways of Japan - food, songs, dances and crafts. I love sharing what I've learned from my own teachers, including my grandparents and school teachers. Their knowledge and skills that were imparted to me makes who I am today, and when I share those with others, I feel their presence surrounding me. This feeling of togetherness is what I enjoy the most. It is very important to me to remain connected to them to live well, as I do not exist today without their teachings and spritual presences.

When I graduated from the college with the bachelor's degree, I was inquired to visit the rural community school and see if I could fill in the open position teaching 7th grade computers to and 10th, 11th, and 12th grade math.

Children at public and/or community school and adults at community colleges. of all ages and different cultural backgrounds. Liberal arts and science majors. Parents and grandparents. Special education and vocational education students.Taught the teachers in teacher training sessions too.

Interview at least three teachers and ask questions to find out which one is the best match.

Describe the goal and/or need as detailed as possible to choose one who can be the best help.

Don't hesitate to change teachers if there isn't a good rapport.

Last 14 years, I've played the bass in the rock 'n roll band. Due to pandemic, the band has ceased to play out, but in the basement, the music has continued to be written and recorded. Recently, the band got together and rehearsed those new songs. It was lovely to be with the bandmates and share our passion for playing music as one. The sound, at first a little shaky, became groovy and harmonious after a few songs, and we had such a joyful day.
