About Patrick
I have been running my own film production company, Quixotic United Productions, since 2011- right before I graduated from Emerson College with a BFA. During the last near-decade I have produced features, documentaries, commercials, short films, and animations. My sets have been throughout New England, New York, and most recently the Los Angeles area. The workload grows and shrinks depending on the budget and scope for a project, so I have done every job on set and in post-production at various times. A lot of employees come in with minimal experience, but my on the job teaching methods helped them gain proficiency and even mastery in no time at all.
My education style excels in the one-on-one format where I can tailor my lessons to your particular learning methods. This will allow you to develop the skills necessary for continuing your progress without the long-term need for a tutor.
Below is an example of a small budget short that exemplies the skills in editing, sound design, VFX, cinematography, and directing that I can teach to you.
(concealed information)
I have lengthy experience in Avid, Adobe Creative Suite, and Davinci Resolve.
I have shot on film and digital.
I have directed for both stage and screen.
Throughout productions I would have interns from my Alma Mater that would learn under me. But also certain hires would come for editing, but want to learn sound design too, or be hired to shoot, but want to learn directing: and I was always happy and excited to teach them what I had learn through years of practice and experimentation.
I have a BFA in Film production from Emerson College. I have run my own production firm for 9 years, producing content at various budget levels, be they features, documentaries, animations, or short films. On certain projects I have edited, sound designed, and sometimes even shot footage depending on the scope of the project.
I am proficient with Avid, Adobe, and Davinci NLE/DAW/VFX software.

I like to spend a little time getting to know the students first. It helps to learn if they work better hands-on or with theory-crafting. Whether they are an auditory or visual learner. But even more important is learning why they want to learn their craft and what they hope to achieve. This can allow me to build an efficient curriculum that will give the student the best chance to succeed.
I have worked with mostly older students, that is 16 and up. Some of my students have even been in their 30s, just wanting to learn a few things in After Effects for fun personal projects. But I specialize in being able to work well with all learning types and not being rigid in my teaching style so that I can provide the most personalized education possible for my students.
For young filmmakers learning a craft, in whatever department they choose, it is best to find an instructor that in not overly hung up on the 'right' way to do things, because in truth there rarely is a 'right' way. Rather look for an instructor who can understand your unique voice so that you can better grow it to communicate with your craft more clearly.
I recently had a set that was mostly Chinese students. They spoke English proficiency, but I managed to learn some basic Mandarin to better communicate with them and help them make a significant step forward in their filmmaking career.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What has been difficult to learn for me in the past?
What things did I learn easily?
~and neither of these need to involve film subjects at all, it's just about understanding what type of learner you are~
An important question to always keep in mind is "What do I want from this skill?"
