About Scott

I have been a law school professor and private tutor for 14 years, and a practicing attorney for 16 years. I emphasize written legal analysis skills - what you will need to learn to write an effective law school essay, pass the bar exam, and be an effective litigator after earning your license. In my experience, most students focus their studies heavily on memorizing black letter rules, and do not put in the time practicing written legal analysis until the exam is right around the corner. My approach has you performing written legal analysis, with the time pressure you will face on your law school exams and on the bar exam, from day one. You will learn, and memorize, the black letter law as you do this, and you will also learn the essential analysis skills you will need to succeed in school.

I have a BFA in Fine Arts from New York University and a JD from Whittier Law School, where I graduated summa cum laude and ranked fourth in my graduating class of 190 students. In law school, I was a tutor in the Academic Success Program, in which second and third year students helped first year students adjust to law school and to succeed on their exams. I was also a teaching assistant for Real Property. Since 2004, I have been on the faculty of Irvine University College of Law, where I have taught classes as varied as Civil Procedure, Torts, Criminal Law, Contracts, Commercial Transactions, Commuinity Property, Legal Research, and Legal Writing. I also privately tutored students from 2005-2007. As a practicing attorney of 16 years, having worked both as a Superior Court research attorney and a litigator, I have an understanding of how the skills you learn in law school will relate to your practice after graduation.

About the lesson

I will first meet with a new student to assess his/her knowledge and skills, usually by providing an essay question for the student to answer. This will give me an idea of the student's strengths and weaknesses. From there, I will develop a plan tailored to addressing the student's individual needs.
