About Tyler

Being a dedicated, long time wrestler since I was about 10 or 11 years old, wrestling was and still is one of my greatest passions. The sport teaches discipline, hard work, and commitment more than any other sport I have experience before and creates lifetime friendships and bonds between teammates and coaches alike.

During my high school years, I was able to make he varsity squad my sophomore year at a public school in California of about 3,500 students. I was also able to make it to southern section CIF my first year on varsity. My junior year, I participated in a national tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada and earned second place out of 136 wrestlers from all across the country in my bracket. I also made it to CIF my junior year and was able to place 6th that year. Finally, I was made captain of the varsity team my senior year and placed 3rd in CIF. I went on to place top 11 at the Southern Section Masters tournament, which is the largest masters section in the state. I was offered many scholarships from universities around the country to wrestle at the collegiate level, but decided to stay home and go to a community college for financial reasons. During that year, I was the freshman wrestling coach at Great Oak High School in Temecula, California.

The most satisfying and heartfelt year of my life was when I coached the freshman team for my high school immediately upon graduation. I wanted those kids to experience victory on the mat more than I ever did for myself, and I am excited to continue helping others achieve their wrestling goals today.

The beginning of my coaching journey came from helping my head coach run the "kid's club" after I would finish my own varsity practice. The kids club was for kids that were not in high school yet, some not even being in elementary school yet. I would help out there twice a week and upon graduating in 2015, I was hired by the district as the freshman wrestling coach for Great Oak High School in Temecula, California. 



I was a middle and high school wrestler for a total of 8 years, have wrestled with college collegiate all-Americans, Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner, UFC fighter Ben Askren and high school state-level wrestlers from across the country. I was a freshman wrestling coach at Great Oak High School in 2015-2016. I also have my Master of Arts degree in Education.

I like to get to know my students before I begin working with them. Of course wrestling is the reason they are here, however I believe trust and comfortability need to be established before we get into the techniques. I do this by doing a little ice breaker and introducing myself to them, and they do the same for me. I also like to have conversations with the students to assess each of their current skill or experience levels so I can properly adjust the types and intensity of the training we will be doing.



I have worked with students of all ages, ranging from 5 years old to 18 years old. I am willing and excited to teach students over the age of 18 as well!



Make sure that they are the right teacher for you! There are many different teaching styles as well as wrestling styles, so finding the coach that fits your needs and desires is important for growth and a positive experience on the mat.



Recently I have been getting offers from a few friends and old coaches of mine to be a coach at the local high schools. Unfortunately, I am no longer living in the area so I have declined, but to be thought of so many years later by my rival wrestlers from other schools and old coaches of mine made me feel as though I made a positive impact on them at the time.
