About Marilyn

I have enjoyed 30 wonderful years teaching math at Manhasset High School, which has a very strong academic standing. My students have learned well, and have done extremely well on classroom and standardized tests. I am rated as a "highly effective" teacher by the new teacher evaluation system.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching Math. Each year brings the opportunity to create new lessons to bring math topics to a new group of students in a clear, creative way.

I began teaching right out of graduate school, and have loved teaching in the same high school for my teaching career.
All my siblings and several relatives are teachers. We love the profession!

I have a Masters degree in Math Education and an undergraduate degree as a math major. I have taught at a very highly rated high school on Long Island for 30 years, with students who have performed very well on both classroom tests and standardized exams. I enjoy working one-on-one with students and getting excellent results. It is my practice as a classroom teacher to provide many opportunities for extra help outside the classroom.

About the lesson

I would first determine the details of the student's current math level based on his/her notes, homeoworks, graded assessments, textbook used. Together we would determine which topics need to be re-enforced and/or re-taught. We would prepare for upcoming assessments in the student's class. I bring my own teaching and practice materials related to the subject needed by a particular student. I am rated by my supervisor as a "highly effective " in the new teacher evaluation system.

All levels of mathematics, from honors to remedial. Most recently, I taught Honors geometry classes along with Regents level geometry and Inclusion geometry (co-teacher model) - the full spectrum of abilities.

Choose a person who has excellent experience, plus patience and the ability to communicate the subject matter clearly. A tutor should have experience teaching studesnts at various levels of ability. An experienced teacher can approach a topic in a variety of ways - If one approach isn't working, the teacher will have a fresh approach that may work better. An experienced teacher will have a bank of examples/exercises to re-inforce a given skill.

I have enjoyed being honored as faculty advisor to the Manhasset Math Honor Society and coach of the Manhasset Mathletes.

Have I done everything required to help improve my understanding (homework, class exercises)? Have I asked questions along the way during a lesson? Am I carefully correcting and reviewing homework errors?
