About Tiana

I'm Tiana, an economics major at Yale. I love meeting new people and getting to know them. Students from all backgrounds are comfortable with me. I have Yale University resources I would be willing to share with my students.

I love working with kids and teens to develop a love for the humanities, reading and writing.

I began by teaching my younger sister how to read when my parents were busy, and we still have the best time reading books together. I was an assistant Bible study teacher for 2 years before taking over the youth ministry full-time in January 2020.

I am trained as a Peace Keeper in mental health awareness and conflict resolution by the Chicago Police Department. I have taught middle-school Bible study at church for 2 years.

About the lesson

I will sit down with the parent and student on a Zoom meeting and lay out what their needs are. I will ask the student some questions about their preferences, then coordinate meeting times. I will send them an outline of what the tutoring sessions will look like, begin sessions and adjust according to the student's pace of progress.

I worked mostly with 3rd–6th grade immigrant students who learned English as a second language, as well as students who were born in the US and are fluent English speakers.

The first tutoring session is free. From then, I will send the parents a quote based on the nature of the sessions (English help, math practice, essay editing) and the amount of time needed to prepare for each session.
