About Elizabeth
Hello!
Thank you for stopping by and checking out my tutoring profile! My name is Elizabeth and I am special education teacher in the Denver Metro area. I received my bachelors degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Science and my masters in Special Education and Deaf Education.
I work with students who are in preschool through 8th grade in both math and literacy. Math is a really tricky subject for many students, and I really enjoy finding unique ways of teaching math that makes sense to each and every student.
Let's talk about literacy. Reading is NOT easy, and that is because there are so many rules in English that are not always explicitly taught. I use Orton Gillingham tools and strategies to teach students why English words are spelled or read the way they are. To be a strong reader you need to have both decoding and comprehension skills, which is what I provide.
If you have any questions about the type of tutoring I provide, or if you would like to see if we are a good fit, please do not hesitate to reach out.

I have a master's degree in Special Education and currently work at a PK-8 school in the Denver Metro area. My students are all Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, as well as ELL (English Language Learners). The strategies I use with this population of students can be successfully used for all students.

If you are interesting in having me work with your student, the first thing I will do is collect information from you (the parents or guardian) about your student.
Questions include:
-What are some of your child's successes in school?
-How does your child learn best?
-What are your goals for summer tutoring?
-Any areas of concern?
With that information in mind, during our first tutoring lesson I will do some informal testing (playing some games, reading passages, etc.) to get a baseline for your student so that I can create lessons that best match the need for your student.
