About Chernyeh

Hi! I am a professional certified advanced level tutor with the National Tutoring Association (NTA), and a Purdue University graduate, with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Information Systems. I am one of less than 40 NTA certified tutors in Illinois. I have 9 years of tutoring experience in total.

Since September 2015, I have been a volunteer tutor at Waukegan to College, a non-profit organization in Waukegan, IL, that helps first-generation students with the process of getting into and through college. I tutor fifth to twelfth grade students one-on-one, in-person and online, and work with them on mathematics (5th grade math to Calculus I), writing, their reading comprehension skills and vocabulary. To date, I have dedicated over 600 hours of service and have worked with over 45 students that are part of this organization.

Since April 2022, I have also been a private tutor. To date, I have tutored over 100 students from across the US and Canada on a one-on-one basis online, recording over 1000 hours. I tutor middle school to college level students in mathematics (6th grade to Calculus I, including ACT math, SAT math, and state math exam preparation).

When I tutor, I always make sure that I'm engaging, patient, effectively communicating, and actively listening to my students. It gives me an opportunity to understand where the student resides in terms of their learning preference and style. From there, I take inventory of what a student needs to improve and be effective. After performing these steps, I devise a lesson plan based on agreed upon goals and outcomes that the student/parent and I have discussed.

I am deeply committed and passionate about working with students to ensure that they are receiving one-on-one instruction that is personalized to their needs, and to empower them to achieve academic success. I am approachable, and will respond promptly to any messages. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a session, feel free to contact me!
