About Brent

I am a professional portrait and wedding photographer with 17 years of photography experience. I have worked with Nikon, Canon, and Sony systems, though I shoot primarily Sony today. I have taught photography and digital darkroom techniques in Kansas, New York, and Massachusetts as well as in Tokyo, Japan and Incheon, South Korea.

Photography allows me to do more than simply document an event. It allows me to manipulate light and shadow in order to capture the essence of a point in time. I can use photography to showcase personality, emotion, or fine details that would be might otherwise be missed.

I have over 17 years of photographic experience. I have been taking photography classes continually since 2001 and have been teaching photography, videography, and digital-darkroom techniques (Photoshop and Lightroom) since 2005.

About the lesson

All lessons are tailor-fitted to my student's needs. We will begin by establishing your photographic goals. Do you want to learn fashion photography, to take pictures of your new puppy, or to catalogue inventory for an online store? Next, we will establish your current experience level. From there, we will outline a course schedule which will allow you to learn at a pace that is approachable and ensure your time is well spent.

Don't get too hung up on your equipment. There are limitations to every camera and to every lens. But you can also produce beautiful images with nearly any camera and any lens. It is better to learn with the camera you have (even if that is just a smartphone to start) and slowly purchase new equipment over time than to bankrupt yourself on equipment you may not need or use.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What types of photos do you want to take?

What types of photos capture your attention online?

Do you want this to be a hobby, a side job, or a full-time job?

What is your budget for lessons and equipment?
