About Nicholas

I concentrate on the creative side of photography. People tell me what that would love to see done as a special project, I make it a reality with minimum photoshop effects. That means real photography with real light and real results. I have been doing photography for over 7 years, started very simply at Lifetouch doing speedy family portraits for church directories. This taught me light and posing, the rest just bloomed from there.

I got started teaching by standing out as a leader and an instructor in my time working for lifetouch. The company saw that when people worked with me, their skills improved, their sales increased, and their customer reviews averaged higher. I had several people from corporate come and view what I did and they liked what they saw. It always helps when you like what you do.

I trained several employees for Lifetouch and realized how enjoyable it was to help teach others this craft. I then continued to learn and teach with other groups in my area. For about 3 years I taught a course at the local library for all ages.

About the lesson

First I want to see what they know. We will go out, have an object lesson, see what they know about their camera and what they expect to learn. After that we work on projects and goals. I give different lessons to cause a natural learning of photography. Showing how light work and captures, best posing, setting a scene, and make all the styles your own.

I have worked with kids as young as 10 all the way up to 70.

Give the teacher a call. Art can be an interesting subject and has a lot of interesting people with it. All of us have our own sight and vision for what the best photography is. Talk to them about your passion and if you plan to do more than just learn the basics of your camera, make sure you click with your teacher!

I am part of a local group call IMPC (Iowa Model and Photographer Coalition). I created the event, organized all the workshops, and hand picked the other instructors. This workshop was for seasoned veteran photographers and completely new folks. It also got models in a safe place where they could meet photographers and help each other make the best of their work. The turn out was about 200 people. I even managed to attract some sponsors, so we had representatives from a few printing companies and Nikon. Everything went incredible smooth and I plan to host another of these events next spring.

What do you plan to gain from this? Photography is a lot of work, very expensive, and not generally very high paying. Most photographers who are willing to teach do it because they love it, do you?

I have several differant pricings, depending on how many lessons and the complexity of the system I am teaching on. If you are using a point and shoot camera and just want to learn best angles, when to use the flash, ect. This is a course that only takes about 2 hours and I change $100 if there is less than 5 people in the class, or $50 per person if there are 6 or more.
