About Mariya
My educational background is in cognitive neuroscience and visual art, specifically oil painting. I have experience with many forms of art such as drawing, watercolors, acrylic, oils and some printing experience such as intaglio (etching). I have recieved multiple grants to teach with elementary school children and older adults at senior centers and assited living facilities. My art programs are often designed to help students learn observational drawing skills while practicing these skills through exercises that simultaneously train their brain's cognitive functions.

Before starting, I like to figure out how much experience my student has and what topics they are interested in studying. My main goal is to teach my students how to draw representationally from observation so the first few lessons consist of building the hand-eye connection. From there, we expand on other topics such as light and dark harmony and composition.
